General Online Questions

  1. Do I have to take all my courses for an online degree or certificate online?
    It is the mission of the college to be accessible as possible to our students. You may take classes at any time that is convenient for you; online, days, nights, weekends.
  2. What degrees to you offer online?
    There is a list of online degrees available.
  3. What support services are available?
    Support services are available via email or in person through the Center for Academic Planning and Support (CAPS), from your faculty member or from your academic advisor.
  4. What do I need for a computer and software?
    The most important part of on-line learning is a reliable computer, internet access and appropriate software to support your academic efforts. Click here for system requirements.
  5. How do I register?
    Current online students can register online through the Student Information System. All students can register via phone, fax, mail or in person.
  6. How to I apply for Admissions?
    Our admissions staff is ready to assist you with the process. You can contact them via phone, email, in person.
  7. How do I get my books?
    The bookstore offers the convenience of sending your books to your front door. Visit the bookstore - online or in person.
  8. Can I access the library?
    To assist you in your academic growth and success the Library offers several resources and services online and on campus. The Library catalog provides information on books and audiovisual materials available at the libraries of the Community College System of New Hampshire. You can also access several journal and newspaper article databases, ebooks and medical reference sources online. The online subscription resources are password protected off campus. For remote access to databases, please contact the Library in person or request the passwords by sending an email to ManchesterLibrary@ccsnh.edu .   9. What is Blackboard?
    Blackboard is the web based learning platform used to deliver course material. You may access your course anywhere, anytime.
  10. What happens if I have technical problems with Blackboard?
    A manual is available on your course site, to determine the specific type of problem you are experiencing. Once you have read that and are still having difficulty, you can contact Judi by calling 668-6706, ext. 267 or by email: jhull@ccsnh.edu.

  11. What skills do I need to be a successful student?
    The most important skills are time management, self motivation and self discipline as well basic computer knowledge. Also check out: Am I a good candidate for online courses?
  12. What kind of activities will I be involved in on Blackboard?
    Each Blackboard course may vary, but you will usually be submitting assignments, participating in discussion boards, and completing tests and quizzes. You may also be involved in group projects.
  13. How do I contact my instructor?
    Your instructor can be contacted via email. He/she will provide you with that email address or once you are registered, you can obtain the email through the Student Information System.
  14. Can I see what other students thought about online classes?
    Definitely. Student's comments can be found on the online Welcome page as well as throughout the online site.
  15. Are online courses easier than on campus classes?
    No. Whether you take a class online or on campus, the content covered is the same. However, online students must have motivation, self-discipline, time management skills and basic computer skills. For the majority of classes, writing skills are essential. Remember, you will be typing your discussion, not just speaking up in class. Please evaluate these things before registering: Am I a good candidate for online courses?
  16. Is online learning a self-paced experience?
    No. You will be expected to meet class deadlines for discussion, posting of information, assignments, etc. Please be sure to read and understand the specific expectations of your instructor by reading his/her syllabus as soon as you have access to your course.
  17. Once I register for an on-line class what will happen?
    After registration, it typically takes 24-48 hours for you to have access to your Blackboard course.
  18. If my instructor has not responded to my emails, what should I do?
    It is recommended that as soon as you register for an on-line course, you send an email to your instructor. Instructors are not required to access the online course until one-week prior to the beginning of a semester.   19. Will my online classes transfer?
    The decision on whether or not a course transfers is totally up to the institution you will be transferring to. Please check out nhtransfer.org for more information.
  20. Where can I find a description of my class?
    All course descriptions can be found in the college catalog course descriptions.
  21. Do I have to be on my computer at a certain time every week?
    No. You will be required to log in a minimum of twice a week but you may choose when to be on the computer for your course work according to your schedule. (As long as course deadlines are met). Students are not required to log in at specific times.
  22. Do I need a special email account for my courses?
    All students at Manchester Community College are now given College email accounts. That account is used for all College contacts with the students. It is the only email to be used within Blackboard. It is essential to set up your CCSNH email as soon as possible.
