2. Placement Testing

All accepted students are required to take a math and English placement test in order to register for courses. The Accuplacer is a standardized placement assessment which will enable us to place you into appropriate courses. The exam takes 2 to 3 hours and consists of four parts:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Sentence Skills
  • Mathematics
  • Writing Sample

Do I Need to Take the Accuplacer?

If you have taken the Accuplacer within the past three years, you may not need to take it again. Or, if you have achieved a certain score on the ACT or SAT, you may be eligible for a waiver. Please bring your official scores to the Center for Academic Planning and Support (CAPS), and meet with a counselor.
If you have passed college-level English or math at another college or university, you can have these credits evaluated. Bring your official transcripts to CAPS or Office of Admissions.

To take the ACCUPLACER:

  1. Visit CAPS (Center for Academic Planning and Support) either on-campus or online for testing times. They are located in the Main Building in the Student Services Center .
  2. Complete the ACCUPLACER testing form Adobe PDF. You can also obtain a copy of the form in CAPS.
  3. Bring the completed form to the Bursar's Office. Pay the $20 fee with cash, check or by credit card. (The Bursar's Office will stamp your form to confirm payment.)
  4. Bring your payment receipt and form to CAPS when you are ready for testing. In addition, you will need two forms of identification, including a picture ID.
